TimeWise and Smartply
Background
The partnership between Smartply and Timewise began in 2007.
Initially, Timewise was brought onboard to provide hardware and a software solution for Smartply’s Waterford warehouse. The solution had to integrate with Smartply’s existing SysPro ERP system.
The solution was effective for many years.
However, Smartply’s Clonmel site was run with completely different hardware, software and systems. This led to a lack of uniformity and increased operational complexities.
In time, Smartply came to recognise the need for uniformity across both sites. Their team members began exploring the various options available.
And by 2020, Smartply was clear on how Timewise could help across both sites.
The Challenge
On the surface, the challenge Smartply was facing was the need to update and unify their warehouse management systems across two large sites. However, things got more complicated as the new solution needed to integrate smoothly with their existing SysPro ERP. And it needed to provide flexibility to adapt to future operational needs.
The Solution
In 2020, TimeWise began detailed discussions with Smartply to tailor a bespoke WMS solution that would address all of Smartply’s requirements.
It was from this early stage onwards that Timewise displaced a distinct approach to meeting the requirements by anticipating the evolving needs of the client.
This encompassed designing a system that went beyond rigid adherence to the initial specifications. Instead, the system Timewise designed allowed for operational changes during the deployment phase. This ensured that the final product met Smartply’s needs as they evolved.
TimeWise developed a Detailed Functional Design (DFD) that outlined all the essential functions required by Smartply.
Furthermore, the new system was built on a modernized, Android-based platform, which offered a graphical interface for operators on the warehouse floor. The solution included decoupling warehouse operations from the core ERP, allowing for nimble, flexible adjustments without the need for extensive reconfigurations.
Implementation
Beginning with the Waterford site, the system was implemented to replace the older system. The new solution immediately made significant improvements to visibility, traceability and operational efficiency.
Subsequently, the system was then rolled out to the Clonmel site, thereby completing the unification of Smartply’s warehouse management for both sites.
The Solution
The impact of Timewise’s WMS quickly resulted in substantial operational improvements for Smartply.
The new solution delivered a trifecta of benefits, namely:
- Enhanced visibility through the warehouse operations.
- Managed locations within the warehouse more effectively.
- And significantly improved the traceability of stock.
The flexibility of the system allowed Smartply to adapt to changing operational needs quickly, further enhancing productivity.
Smartply’s feedback has been positive.
According to their team, the new system has been a transformative upgrade. It has delivered all the promised enhancements and more. The client expressed high satisfaction with the professional delivery, adherence to budget and the overall operational improvements achieved through the new WMS solution.
Conclusion
Working with Smartply highlights TimeWise’s ability to deliver comprehensive, adaptable solutions that meet the specific needs of their clients. By focusing on flexibility, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction, TimeWise was able to provide Smartply with a unified WMS solution that not only met but exceeded their expectations.
